Meet the Staff of the Huruma Centre!
A dedicated group of 10 big-hearted people make up the staff of the Huruma Centre. The most important thing they provide is a sense of security that gives the children hope for the future and the power to thrive in daily living. Some of the staff have served at the Huruma Centre for 25 years. Two guards provide 24/7 security at the main gate of the Centre. Four matrons provide for the needs of the children day and night. Two cooks work hard to provide up to 200 meals per day. A chaplain tends to the spiritual needs of the children, and the director oversees all activity and operations of the Centre. |
Meet the Director, Mchungaji Joyce!
The director of the Huruma Centre is Pastor Joyce Ngandango. The word for "pastor" in Kiswahili is "Mchungaji," so many refer to her as Mchungaji Joyce. For many years, Mchungaji Joyce has served as a pastor in the Iringa Diocese of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT) both in parishes of the diocese and as a diocese leader in charge of women's ministry. In August 2017, Mchungaji Joyce began her ministry leading the Huruma Centre. There she leads the staff in providing nurture to the children of the Centre with shelter, food, clothing, essential health care, and primary education. Friends of Huruma works closely with her to ensure the stability, security, and effectiveness of the Huruma Centre. |
