PARTNERS of Friends of Huruma

To provide all that the children need to grow and thrive, Friends of Huruma collaborates with indispensable partners.

In Iringa Tanzania

The Huruma Centre is a  ministy of the Iringa Diocese. With the help of supporters in Minnesota and Germany, the Diocese founded the Centre at its current site. The Diocese oversees the work of the Centre Director and provides funding to support her position as well as the position of the Huruma Centre chaplain. In addition, Diocese staff provide essential support for developing and completing facility projects at the Huruma Centre.

In Berlin, Germany

Two organizations in Berlin, Berlin Missionswerk and The Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf Church Circle of the Evangelical Church in Germany, were instrumental in establishing the Huruma Centre in 1994. Since then, they have provided annual support for Centre Operations and occasional support for facility improvements.

In 2018, Berlin Missionswerk and the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf Church Circle entered into a more formal partnership with Friends of Huruma and the Iringa Diocese. This partnership, the first of its kind in the Iringa Diocese, will result in more consistent support for the Centre along with additional resources for secondary school scholarships.

In St. Paul, Minnesota

The Bega Kwa Bega (BKB) mission of the Saint Paul Area Synod supports Friends of Huruma with a number of administrative services. In addition, other affiliates of the BKB organization provide assistance in the mission of Friends of Huruma. Shoulder to Shoulder, the medical affiliate of BKB, with medical professionals in Iringa, provides health care services annually for the children of the Huruma Centre. In addition, Millions of Trees, the re-forestation and economic development affiliate of BKB, provides resources for the Centre to grow trees for harvesting, supplying income for the operation of the Huruma Centre.
